There is new activity in the after-sales area of a branded 4S dealership in Wuhan, Hubei. On ground that was once full of cars waiting to be washed, the main frame of a classic red Tianyi touchless car wash machine has gone up. Beside the site hoarding the after-sales manager is coordinating vehicle flow over the radio: “Three more days and the new machine is running — then the queuing problem is over.”
The dealership handles more than 1,200 after-sales visits a month. Pre-delivery washes, post-service cleaning and handovers after accident repairs all fall to two wash staff and the front desk, working flat out. A manual wash takes about 15 minutes per car, and at peak times the queue reaches the door, with customers chasing their cars from the lounge almost every day. Worse, manual washing can trap grit that occasionally scratches freshly painted panels — several complaints a month, which hurt satisfaction and add after-sales cost.
The classic red touchless machine being installed here takes only five days from arrival to operation. The main frame is in place, and cabling and sensor calibration are moving ahead in parallel, with commissioning expected this week. The machine washes with high-pressure water from rotating nozzles and never touches the paint — water curtains plus a dedicated detergent flush the dirt away, removing the risk of scratches at the source. A single car takes only 3–5 minutes, a clear gain over manual work, and once it is running daily capacity is expected to rise from 80 cars to more than 120.
“The handover peaks used to be what I dreaded most,” says the dealership’s manager. “Now I am just waiting for the machine to start. Handovers get faster, I no longer worry about scratches, and the wash staff we free up can help with handover checks. More than one gain.”
