In the workshop, four blue-and-black Tianyi single-brush bus wash machines have finished assembly and commissioning. Wrapped in dust covers and lined up neatly, they are about to be shipped to a partner bus company. The customer ordered four units in one go, to be sited at wash positions in its depots and dedicated to cleaning bus exteriors after vehicles return.
Buses are long and tall, so washing them purely by hand is slow and tiring. The single-brush bus machine is configured specifically for the vehicles it will serve, with a blue brush assembly and a large column structure. Once started, the single brush concentrates on the main body along both flanks and the skirt, working with a high-pressure pre-rinse and a dedicated detergent to handle everyday dirt such as dust, road mud spots and bug residue — cutting the repeated hand-scrubbing required.
Running the four units in groups helps ease the queues that build up when buses return to the depot together. For details such as the roof, the corners of the front and rear bumpers and the wheel-arch gaps, a final hand touch-up is recommended for a more even finish. Areas such as body advertising decals and protruding air-conditioning units can be avoided within the marked range.
Before shipping, the factory packed the brushes, pump sets, electrical controls and piping parts for each of the four machines to order. Before they left the works they were dry-run to confirm brush contact, sensor start-up and water coverage, and test-washed on a sample vehicle supplied by the customer, with timings recorded for different levels of soiling. On site, installation will focus on the clear width of the passage, the vehicle entry route and drainage conditions. Depots in the north need pipe drainage and anti-freeze measures for winter, while rainy southern depots need extra attention to waterproofing and earthing of the electrical controls.
Bus washing is all about matching return frequency, bay layout and vehicle height. Once in place, the four single-brush bus machines will work as routine appearance-maintenance equipment alongside hand finishing, helping vehicles go into service looking presentable.
